Our Story

Tasty Caribbean Delights was born in May 2004 by the Gilbert Family. Our company started when there was a need for sandwiches on a sailboat snorkeling tour. We saw the opportunity, seized it, and the rest is history.

Customers were always wowed by the extensive variety of dishes we offered on a daily basis. Near the end of the Atlantis phase we transitioned into our Faith Avenue location, and since then we have grown from a six employee operation to a twenty person strong team. We have become a household name in not only Nassau but The Bahamas in its entirety.

We have countless customers that walk through our doors and make it a point to let us know that we are their first stop from the airport. Others bring their own containers to carry our food with them to family members living abroad. That is the part we are proudest of.

The Timeline

May 2004

A sandwich, a sailboat, an opening

The Gilbert Family spotted a gap: a sail and snorkel company had no food for the guests on their day excursions. Karen Gilbert stepped in with sandwiches. That one order became a business.

The Atlantis years

Feeding the crews on site

Our first physical location came during the Atlantis Phase Three construction. We served the construction workers on the island alongside the general public, and people fell in love with the food.

The move to Faith Avenue

A restaurant and lounge of our own

Near the end of the Atlantis phase we transitioned to our Faith Avenue North location. What started as a takeaway counter grew into a full restaurant and lounge.

Six to twenty plus

A team, not just a kitchen

We have grown from a six person operation to a team of more than twenty. Some of our staff have been here more than a decade.

Today

A household name, and a van on the road

We serve breakfast from 6:00am, lunch and dinner until 10:00pm, cater across New Providence, host private events in our lounge, and run a second service from our food van on Windsor Road, near the airport.

what we stand on

Our Values

Simply the Best

Our founder's standard, and the reason the slogan is on every sign we own. If a plate is not right, it does not leave the kitchen.

Cooked fresh, daily

We cook in daily batches rather than holding food over. That is why the variety changes and why the regulars ask what is on today.

People before paperwork

Karen left a secure nursing career to do this full time. Her answer to the doubters was simple: where God guides, he provides.

Part of the community

From church events to funerals to office lunches, we show up for Nassau on the days that matter most.

We Pride Ourselves in Being Simply the Best

Twenty two years on Faith Avenue North, and the standard has not moved once.

the people behind it

Meet Our Team

More than twenty people work here. These three have shaped what Tasty Caribbean Delights has become.

Karen Gilbert

Founder

In 2004 Karen started Tasty Caribbean Delights by supplying a sail and snorkel company with sandwiches when they had no food for their day excursion guests. From that one small seed an entire tree grew. Her professional background was nursing, which she left to become a full time restaurant owner. Many thought it was a gutsy move given how well she was doing, and her response was simply: where God guides, he provides. Karen strives for excellence and prides herself on running her business to the best of her ability, hence the company slogan, Simply the Best.

Abigail Charles

Sales & Marketing

Known around here as The Tasty's Ambassador. Abigail has been part of the TCD team for over twelve years and has played a great role in the social media expansion of the business. She works to get the Tasty brand in front of every person she encounters. Asked why she is always so vocal about TCD, she explained that she is sincerely proud to be part of an organisation that gives such excellent food and service. Abigail is a natural at public relations and has appeared on many of the local radio stations promoting upcoming events. In her words: the motto at TCD is Simply the Best, therefore my role can be nothing less.

Phylecia Sands

Human Resources & Office Manager

Phylecia joined the team in March of 2017 and has been an invaluable addition. She is always friendly and accommodating with our customers and staff, so much so that we call her The Diffuser, because her bubbly personality lets her defuse any situation she is faced with on the job. Phylecia loves working with and interacting with people, she is truly a people's person, and she says her time here does not feel like a job at all. Her best advice: choose to do something that you enjoy as employment, that way you would never have to work a day in your life.
